œGORDION: THE EXCAVATIONS
SITUATION, IDENTIFICATION, NAME
The settlement mound at Gordion lies beside the Sakarya River, just above its junction with the Porsuk. The easiest route from the northeast Aegean and the Marmara coasts to the Anatolian plateau followed the lower valley of the Sakarya through the Bilecik pass, to reach the plateau in the neighborhood of Eski¬ehir (Dorylaion).EEE
